A Curated Christian Labor Playlist for a Peaceful Birth

I just recently had my second home birth welcoming a precious baby girl into our family. There’s so much physical preparation for a home (or natural) birth but for me, the preparation of my mind for what’s to come is the most important.

Leading up to both births, I prayed over the atmosphere in my home.  I prayed that it would be peaceful, encouraging, empowering and calm. The thing that helped me the most aside from prayer and my scripture affirmations was creating a worship playlist for pregnancy and labor with some of my favorite christian music songs.

With my first born, I went into labor in the middle of the night (1:30 am Christmas morning!) and I immediately grabbed my headphones. I listened to my playlist as the waves of contractions began to wash over me.

The Impact of Music on Your Mind

Music has such a strong impact on your mind and mental state. The effects of music have been shown to decrease levels of anxiety and stress in the mother and improve fetal parameters during the gestation and delivery periods.

Music can be SO powerful.

I’ve seen many times how praise and worship music can shift an atmosphere and make anxiety flee.

Curate a Playlist

If you’re having trouble quieting your mind and any fears you may be having surrounding your birth, creating a playlist to listen to throughout your pregnancy and while you labor is a great place to start.

I created my labor playlist in Spotify curating it with worship songs that have spoken to my heart.

Worship Songs From my Playlist

Some of my absolute favorites that brought me peace and directed my mind back to the Lord during pregnancy and labor are:

Gratitude – Brandon Lake

Details – Sarah Reeves

Tremble – Mosaic

Way Maker – Leland

Song of My Father – Urban Rescue

Pray Something – SEU Worship

Into the Deep – Citipointe Worship

Rest on Us – Maverick City Music

Come to Me – David Baloche

Surrounded (Fight my Battles) – UPPERROOM

Hi!

I’m Shelbi. I’m so glad you’re here.

Mother’s Millk was birthed out of the death of my own mother. She went to be with the Lord when I was only 23 years old When I became pregnant at age 27, without my mom here I found myself seeking the Lord for His wisdom on how to be a mother to my baby. As mamas to ever-growing babies, we all need nourishment—physical and spiritual—to keep us strong for our children. I’m sharing my heart here with wisdom that the Lord has whispered to me in motherhood. May we always crave nourishment from the Lord so that we remain strong for our babies.

My hope is that other mothers would glean from the bits of experiences I’ve had in home birth, breastfeeding and bedsharing.

I also love sharing about home textile and bedding brands that use natural materials and focus on sustainability. My background is in product design and marketing in the home and fashion industries so I love discovering new brands and products.

Bedsharing Safely: How to Bedshare with your Newborn

May 26, 2023 By Shelbi Collins Leave a Comment

Before my first child was born, I swore off having my baby sleep in bed with me and my husband. I was told that bedsharing and co-sleeping were just too dangerous–that it could cause him to die. There was absolutely nothing that I was going to do to intentionally harm my precious baby so, I
